Two inspiring days in Berlin and Potsdam brought together our community across science, research, policy and industry for the 2026 ECCSEL ERIC General Assembly—hosted in connection with Germany's membership of ECCSEL since 2025.
From the research campus at GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Berlin, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), and finally Cemex Rüdersdorf, the programme showcased the power of collaboration and the importance of connecting research with industrial decarbonisation.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Cornelia Schmidt-Hattenberger and the GFZ team, Dr. Alexandra Decker and CEMEX, Dr. Jonas Skei and Erik Ferdinand Øverland for hosting us at the Embassy, and a special thanks to Dr. Jan Siedentopp for welcoming the General Assembly to the BMWE.
A standout achievement from this year's General Assembly was the formal approval of Austria as ECCSEL ERIC's 8th Member State.
We also approved the addition of 14 new research facilities, contributed by both existing and new research facility owners, further expanding Europe's leading research infrastructure for carbon management.
ECCSEL ERIC now brings together:
8 Member States
👥 67 Research Facility Owners
🔬 166 Research Facilities
Together, we are strengthening Europe's research capacity for CCUS, CDR, Low-Carbon Energy Systems, and Geothermal Energy—accelerating innovation and the transition towards a climate-neutral future.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to two days of inspiring discussions, new connections, and shared ambition.
